About the Grounds Team

The Grounds team provides a welcoming environment for students, faculty, staff, visitors, and the broader community to enjoy. The team is responsible for a wide range of campus grounds and landscape operations, including snow removal, lawn care, irrigation installation and maintenance, horticultural practices, water conservation and efficiency initiatives, campus forestry management, sports turf maintenance, event support, equipment maintenance, and landscape design and construction.

Our dedicated team works year-round in all types of weather to keep our campus safe, clean, and beautiful. During the winter months, they often respond after hours and on weekends to clear snow and ensure campus remains accessible. Their hard work, commitment, and attention to detail make a lasting impact every day.

Interesting Facts:
  • We plant approximately 9,800 flowers each year throughout campus landscapes.
  • We maintain an inventory of 3,802 campus trees (as of June 2019).
  • We employ 14 full-time staff members, supported by 20–40 student and part-time employees.
  • We foster and maintain a pollinator-friendly campus environment.
  • We remove snow from approximately 30 acres of sidewalks and stairways, as well as 45 acres of parking lots.
  • We mow more than 100 acres of turf each week during the growing season.
  • We completed more than $1.3 million in campus beautification projects in partnership with the Wheatley family.
