More information about orchestras and strings at ISU coming soon!
The Idaho State-Civic Symphony (ISCS), MUSP 1169, is a full symphony orchestra made up of ISU students, faculty, and local community members. The symphony has been part of Pocatello’s history since the early 1900s and gives student musicians a unique opportunity to learn and perform alongside their professors and other experienced performers. Led by Artistic Director/Conductor Dr. Nell Flanders, the orchestra performs two to three exciting and inspiring concerts each semester. Auditions for the ISCS take place each fall on the Saturday before the first day of classes. For information on audition requirements and to sign up for an audition, please visit https://iscsymphony.org/
ISCS concerts are free for ISU students with a valid student ID.
For more information about the ISCS's history and programs, visit Idaho State-Civic Symphony's dedicated website.
The ISU Chamber Orchestra, MUSP 1163, is a string orchestra that meets weekly from 4-6 pm on Thursdays. Directed by Dr. Nell Flanders, the ensemble is open to violin, viola, cello, and bass players who already have some experience playing their instruments. Individual auditions for Dr. Flanders take place during the first week of classes in the fall and on an ongoing basis for admittance for spring semester. The Chamber Orchestra prepares one program per semester for performance towards the end of the semester. Please reach out to Dr. Flanders with any questions and to schedule an audition at nellflanders@isu.edu.
The String Ensemble, MUSP 1168 (Section 04), is a chamber ensemble class led by Professor of Violin Dr. Hyeri Choi. Students are placed in small ensembles, which rehearse and are coached throughout the semester in preparation for a public performance. For more information, please contact Dr. Choi at choihyer@isu.edu
