A Silly, Goofy Microbe
Hi, my name is Shannon Hendricks! I am going into my last year of college. I am from Boise and attended high school at Meridian Medical Arts Charter High School. I plan on finishing my honors bachelor's degree in May 2026 and starting graduate school studying bacteria. My long-term goal is to research pathogenic bacteria, especially concerning antibiotic resistance and new avenues for treatment. Besides school, I love to go antique hunting, walk my cat, and work in the lab. I am the biggest bacteria nerd and enjoy spending my day at the bench working!
This is my third year of being a peer mentor for the UHP. I also have worked for two years as an undergraduate research assistant. Through summer research programs I have been able to work in a molecular biology lab at Boise State University and a microbiology lab at Idaho State University. Currently, I am working on a project looking at how magnesium rescues Streptococcus pneumoniae undergoing manganese toxicity and the host range of novel bacteriophages discovered at Idaho State. As well as being a researcher, I also work as an undergraduate teaching assistant for the Principles of Microbiology course.
Despite everything, I truly am just a silly, goofy microbe! I am so excited to meet you!
