Life, uh, finds a way

Hey everyone!

My name is Lauren Owens, and I’m so excited to be a returning UHP mentor this year. I can’t wait to meet and connect with many of you on campus!

I’m currently majoring in Biochemistry with plans to attend medical school. I’ve changed my major and programs quite a few times, so if you ever have questions about switching majors or exploring different health tracks, there’s a good chance I’ve been there—and I’d be happy to help!

I’m also earning a certificate in biomedical ethics and am part of the new Honors Civic Scholars program. During my time at ISU, I’ve taken advantage of a lot of different opportunities—from dual enrollment and workforce training to my current studies—and I’ve loved every part of the journey.

I’m a nationally certified phlebotomist and had an awesome experience going through that program. Right now, I work as a Medical Assistant at a local clinic where I’ve gained experience in pain management. Like many ISU students, I also volunteer at the Pocatello Free Clinic, which has been a really rewarding way to give back to the community.

I recently finished a research project with the Community and Public Health Department on collegiate dancers injury reporting and care satisfaction. I am now excited to start in a new lab with Dr. Evilia in the chemistry department.

Outside of school and work, I love watching movies, playing tennis, going on walks, and playing Mario Kart. I also have a pretty impressive plant collection—including the usual houseplants and a thriving group of carnivorous ones. If you ever want to chat about plants, I’m always down!

One thing I’ve learned about college is that it’s meant to be a time to explore. So get out there and see!!! You might be surprised by what you discover and enjoy.

Looking forward to an amazing year ahead!
