Zdravo! ¡Hola! My name is Amina Miljkovic, and I cannot wait to serve as a UHP mentor! I am a double major in Health Sciences with a Pre-Dental focus and Spanish for Health Professions. I hope to attend dental school as I focus on providing for the underserved, specifically those who face health disparities due to barriers such as language, inadequate access, or poor health care utilization. I am trilingual as Bosnian was my first language, and I have been studying Spanish for 6 years now. Having been named a Benjamin A. Gilman Scholar, I will use my language skills in contexts abroad this upcoming summer of 2025. I will be intensely studying medical Spanish at the Universidad de Belgrano in Buenos Aires, Argentina while doing clinical practicums at the local Argentinian hospital, Fleni Hospital!
I have thoroughly enjoyed my first two years here at ISU as I am heavily invested in the tight-knit community that makes up the University Honors Program! As a first-generation college student, attending higher education was very daunting. However, with the guidance and genuine support from various faculty and peers of the UHP, college is not as intimidating as it may seem! This is now the time to open as many doors of opportunity as you possibly can, so do not back down from the menacing-looking applications, internships or programs!
You can always find me casually crashing out in a chemistry lab, studying in Starbucks or budgeting for my next concert. I have been told I am an exceptional driver—don’t look at my front bumper—who is most likely replaying the same three artists: Daniel Caesar, Frank Ocean, and Natalia Lafourcade. I have a twin sister who almost ate me in the womb and, before you ask, we look absolutely nothing alike. I always have a relentless watch tan line on my wrist from the summer heat, and I enjoy snowboarding—more like eating it down the mountain—at the local ski resort during the winter months. And please, for my sake and yours, do not call me “Amino Acid” as a nickname.
