Student Learning Outcomes:

Upon successful completion of the Health Information Technology program, graduates will be able to:

1. Analyze the structure, dynamics, and ethics of the U.S. healthcare system and the roles of various provider specialties.
2. Apply legal, regulatory, and accreditation standards to ensure the integrity, confidentiality, and security of health information.
3. Evaluate the relationship between clinical documentation, coding accuracy, and reimbursement systems from third-party payers.
4. Utilize health information technology, including EHR systems and software, to manage data across the continuum of patient care and administrative functions.
5. Apply ICD-10-CM/PCS, CPT, and HCPCS coding systems to accurately classify medical data for reimbursement, statistics, and revenue cycle management.
6. Analyze patient records to abstract and translate diagnostic and procedural information into accurate codes for claims and data reporting.
7. Communicate health information effectively through professional written documents and oral presentations.
8. Perform computational and analytical skills required for data management, coding, and reimbursement processes.

9. Demonstrate professional and ethical judgment, as well as effective interpersonal skills, in academic and clinical settings.
10. Achieve the competencies required for entry-level practice as a health information technician and for pursuit of professional certification (e.g., RHIT).
11. Prepare for roles in a diverse and dynamic healthcare marketplace, including remote and national employment opportunities.
12. Articulate a pathway for career advancement, whether through immediate employment with an Intermediate Technical Certificate or continued education toward an Associate of Applied Science degree.
