Cosmetology

Program Objectives:

This program will provide students with the skills and knowledge to perform a variety of beauty services that cover all phases of the beauty culture such as manicuring, shampooing, hair styling, make-up application, temporary and permanent hair waving, hair straightening, bleaching and tinting, and various skin and scalp treatments.  Graduate cosmetologists will also have strong human relations skills and the ability to communicate with people.

Student Learning Outcomes – Cosmetology:

Student Learning Outcomes – Barbering:

Upon successful completion of the BTC in Barbering, students will be able to:

  1. Demonstrate Proficiency in Barbering Techniques
     Perform professional-level barbering services, including hair cutting, tapering, fading, shaving, beard and mustache design, and facial hair grooming, using industry-standard tools and techniques.

  2. Apply Safety and Sanitation Practices
     Follow all state and federal safety, sanitation, and infection control standards to maintain a safe and hygienic work environment, including proper disinfection of tools, equipment, and work areas.

  3. Understand and Apply Hair and Scalp Science
     Identify hair and scalp conditions and apply appropriate treatments based on a foundational understanding of hair structure, scalp disorders, and hair types.

  4. Deliver Exceptional Client Services
     Provide quality client consultations, demonstrate professional communication skills, and ensure client satisfaction through personalized grooming services.

  5. Demonstrate Professionalism and Ethics
     Exhibit a professional demeanor, practice good work habits, uphold industry ethics, and maintain client confidentiality and trust.

  6. Apply Business and Retail Skills
     Demonstrate an understanding of barber shop management, including customer service, retailing products, appointment scheduling, and basic business operations.

  7. Meet State Licensing Requirements
     Satisfy the necessary theoretical knowledge and practical skill requirements to successfully pass the state board licensing examination for barbers.
