Audition Information for Spring Semester 2025-2026 Season

ISU Theatre and Dance 2025-2026 Season Auditions

Initial Auditions: December 1st 6:00 - 9:00 p.m. - Bistline Theatre, consisting of:

Total package not to exceed 4 minutes:

• 1 Minute Contemporary comedic monologue
• 1 Minute epic monologue from your favorite work of fantasy or sci-fi from any medium
• 32 bars of a pop/jazz selection with piano accompaniment.

Callbacks will be in person on Dec. 2nd or 3rd from 6:00-9:00 pm respectively:    

If you are invited for a Callback you will be notified after your initial audition.

The Marvelous Wonderettes by Roger Bean - The Marvelous Wonderettes is a jukebox musical comedy with a book by Roger Bean. The show, which uses pop songs from the 1950s and 1960s as a vehicle to tell its story, pays homage to the high school Songleader squads of the 50s. When called upon to perform at their senior prom as a last minute replacement, Springfield High Songleaders Betty Jean, Cindy Lou, Missy and Suzy, rally together to entertain their classmates in four-part harmony. The second act shows the four ten years later at a high school reunion.

The musical includes the songs "Lollipop", "Dream Lover", "Stupid Cupid", "Lipstick on Your Collar", "Hold Me, Thrill Me, Kiss Me", "It's My Party", and "It's In His Kiss (The Shoop Shoop Song)".

CHARACTERS:

CINDY LOU (18, 28) knows she is the prettiest girl at Springfield High. She assumes she will be named Prom Queen and acts out against best friend Betty Jean when things don't go her way. She makes the biggest change between Act 1 & 2, having learned the lessons of true love and loss. 

MISSY (18, 28) is the over-achiever of the group. Very controlled and controlling, and extremely concerned that everything at the prom turns out wonderful and perfect. An elementary school teacher in-the-making, she is head of the prom decorations committee, and absolutely smitten with her music teacher, Mr. Lee. Her best friend is Suzy. 

 

BETTY JEAN (18, 28) is the class clown and tomboy, always vying for attention with her best friend Cindy Lou. It's highly probable that Betty Jean wants to be with Cindy Lou herself, but doesn't even know what those feelings really are. Cindy Lou steals Betty Jean's boyfriend away, which causes a lot of the friction at the prom. She holds a grudge against Cindy Lou until they make up at the 10-year reunion. 

 

SUZY (18, 28) is sometimes stereotyped as the ditzy blonde because she is always smiling and giggling—nothing ever seems to bother her. Suzy is in love with the lighting operator, Ritchie Stevens, and completely surprised when named prom queen. Her best friend is Missy. Frustrated, sad, hormonal, and pregnant in Act 2. 

 

Emme and the Taking of the Woods by Jef Petersen – Emme, a precocious and intelligent nine-year old, likens themself to the heroes of all the very best myths and legends of yore. But when they answer a mysterious call for help emanating from the woods behind their house in the dark of night, they find themself facing a destructive force that is obliterating entire worlds across the multiverse. On their epic adventure, Emme meets an assortment of companions to aid in the fight, but in the end, they must learn that even the best heroes will sometimes roll a critical failure.

 

CHARACTERS:

 

EMME: (Pronounced ËM-uh), Fighter class. A nine-year-old hero, epic sword moves, epic dance moves, ain't no monster too big.

BIG FLUFFY MONSTER: A grotesque but simultaneously big, fluffy, adorable monster with a slobbery mouth filled with yellow razor sharp teeth.

MOTHER: Emme's mother. She worries. (Double cast with ARTAX).

ARTAX: Fighter class. A white horse living in the Poniverse originally from the world of Fantastica. A hardened soldier. (Double cast with MOTHER)

DUSKY DAZZLE: Mage class. A powerful mage and wise-pony from Poniopolis in the Poniverse

QUEEN SOLARIA: Ruling class. Ruler of Poniopolis

POM CHAVEL: Bard class. A musically gifted pony.

VARIOUS ASSEMBLED PONIES: Last of the ponies variously assembled.

O’KEEFFE: Bard/Ranger class. An Ocularian spirit of artist Georgia O'Keeffe

DALI: Bard class. An Ocularian spirit of Salvador Dali

FRIDA: Bard class. An Ocularian spirit of Frida Kahlo

BASQUIAT: Bard class. An Ocularian spirit of Jean-Michel Basquiat

VARIOUS ASSEMBLED OCULARIANS: Last of the Ocularians variously assembled.

BUNNICORN: (pronounced Bünicorn) Spellcaster class. Half bunny, half unicorn, all attitude.

CAPTAIN L.I.S.A.: Captain of the USS Starship Compromise. An android.

CAPTAIN BARTOLOMEU P. FEIGNWELL: Captain of the dread pirate ship the Ostentatious marmot. He fakes it good.

THE SOMETHING: A voice. And also a terrible destructive force.

COYOTE: A reoccurring presence. A persistent memory. An enduring love.
