Prepare to Teach. Prepare to Lead.

The Doctor of Arts (D.A.) program is intended for students interested in a career teaching political science in a variety of higher education settings ranging from community colleges to universities. D.A. graduates are prepared to teach a variety of political science courses including those in Public Administration; Comparative Politics and International Relations; American Government and political behavior; Public Law; and Political Theory. 

 

Broad Expertise – Study American politics plus two additional fields.

 

 

Teaching Focus – Build strong skills in pedagogy and instruction.

 

 

Interdisciplinary Learning – Integrate coursework across social sciences.

 

 

Research Training – Present at conferences and prepare work for publication.

 

Doctor of Arts (D.A.)

For all D.A. students, the field of American politics is required, along with a choice of any two of the following fields: Public Administration; Comparative Politics and International Politics; Public Law; and Political Theory. With this basis, graduates:

  • Gain knowledge of political science through an interdisciplinary approach that can include course work in one or two cognate social science disciplines.
  • Get extensive training in pedagogy, craft a distinct teaching philosophy, and demonstrate a variety of pedagogical techniques and skills.
  • Demonstrate their research skills by presenting their work at professional conferences and/or submitting their work for publication review.
