Cohort Training

During the 2021-2026 grant cycle, at least 60 working interpreters will participate in extensive online training, guided by curriculum coaches who will reinforce concepts presented in PEHI’s newly-developed healthcare interpreting curriculum. Cohorts include Deaf and hearing working interpreters. Up to 15 participants are accepted in each cohort. Participants are nominated by their state agency for the Deaf/Hard of Hearing. There will be four cohorts training sessions offered before the end of the grant.

Participants complete a 6-8 month hybrid (live online practice sessions, synchronous online meetings, and asynchronous modules) training curriculum and then become eligible to work with an experienced/paid mentor for a 20-hour induction experience. Selected participants who complete both portions of the training will be given a stipend towards a performance or written medical interpreting examination.

Cohort 3 will be comprised of participants nominated by state agencies serving the Deaf/Hard of Hearing in Louisiana, Kansas, and Idaho.

Cohort participants must be working interpreters with at least 3 years of experience and a bachelor's degree (or equivalent).
