Description of Healthcare Interpreting Training

The program for Promoting Equity in Healthcare Interpreting has created a series of modules on medical interpreting.  These are being offered at no cost to participants and supported by an RSA training grant.   

The modules should take about 5.5 hours to complete and cohort participants will be awarded .55 CEUs by RID in Professional Studies for each module. BEI CEUs may also be available, please check with the relevant CEU authority in your state. There are a total of 15 modules and a 20-hours induction experience for 2.0 CEUs. Cohort 3 participants will have the opportunity to earn up to 10.25 CEUS for completing all of the modules. 

This asynchronous online training can be completed at your own pace - but - each module must be completed within two weeks (14 days) to receive CEUs.

We are a cooperative arrangement between Idaho State University and Gallaudet University, funded by a grant from the Rehabilitation Services Administration (H160D2100007).

Free Online Healthcare Interpreter Training Now Available

The PEHI Project

The Promoting Equity in Healthcare Interpreting project (PEHI) is a five-year Rehabilitation Services Administration grant-funded ASL/English training that will advance opportunities for Deaf, Hard-of-Hearing and DeafBlind patients to experience equitable healthcare by increasing the number and skills of ASL/English interpreters.

The project titled “Promoting Equity in Healthcare Interpreting” is funded by the U.S. Department of Education Rehabilitation Services Administration, Award Number H160D210007, 84.160D: “Training of Interpreters for Individuals Who are Deaf or Hard of Hearing and Individuals Who Are Deafblind Program.” This grant was awarded to Idaho State University in Speciality Area 5, field initiated, in the topic area of interpreting in healthcare (to advance health equity.) The percentage of total costs for this project supported by U.S. Department of Education federal dollars is 100%. Idaho State University’s funding for this project in Year Four is $417,847.00.
