Effie Hernandez, Shoshone-Bannock Tribal Citizen

In this role, the NASS coordinator supports Native students—current, incoming, and prospective—as their primary point of contact. The NASS Coordinator also leads efforts for Indigenous People’s Day and Native American Heritage Month and engages in outreach through K–12 educational programs, career days, and community events serving Native American populations.

Effie holds a Bachelor’s degree from the University of Idaho and earned her Master’s from Idaho State University. With eight years of experience in higher education, she has contributed to various areas including admissions, recruitment, and multicultural outreach in southeast Idaho. At the University of Idaho, she served for three years as Assistant Director of Recruitment before joining the College of Eastern Idaho as a Recruiter and Career Placement Coordinator. There, she developed and transitioned into a newly created position as Multicultural Coordinator. In Fall 2023, Effie completed the Indigenous Leadership Academy through the American Indian Policy Institute at Arizona State University. 

Effie has been the NASS Coordinator for Idaho State University since June, 2024.
