Human Patient Simulation Lab

at ISU-Meridian Health Science Center

The Human Patient Simulation Lab at ISU-Meridian features computerized human patient simulators (HPS), including two adult models and one infant model, as well as a mechanical birthing mother mannequin.

Human patient simulators (HPS) have variable heart rates, respiration, and blood pressure, display oxygen saturation, and exhibit palpable pulses, as well as heart sounds, lung sounds, bowel sounds, Korotkoff sounds, and vocal sounds. The mannequins have IV arms with sites for subcutaneous and intramuscular injections. Defibrillation, monitoring, and external pacing can be used on the HPS. Male and female genitalia are interchangeable for urinary catheterization.

The human patient simulators are used to conduct a variety of different trauma and resuscitation scenarios, which include procedures such as establishing emergency airways and cardiopulmonary resuscitation.

The ISU Human Patient Simulation Lab is available to ISU academic programs, other health professions training programs, first responder/EMS agencies, and community health professionals on a space-available basis. Contact Michelle Campbell at michellecampbell@isu.edu for information on fees and scheduling.
