Tenure track faculty are on a pathway to earn tenure. Tenure and promotion is a multi-year process during which the faculty member must demonstrate excellence in research, teaching, and service to the institution. Non-tenure track faculty positions do not lead to tenure. Instead, these faculty members often focus primarily on teaching, clinical, or administrative duties, with fewer expectations for research or service. Some positions may be considered "teaching-focused," with less emphasis on publishing research.
