Credentialing Information
Students who successfully complete the ISU MS/Dietetic Internship Program, which includes completing coursework for a Masters of Science in Nutrition and a minimum of 1,000 hours of supervised practice, receive a graduate diploma and Dietetic Internship Verification Statement. See the Accreditation Council for Education in Nutrition and Dietetics, or ACEND, website for information about educational pathways.
How the MS/DI Fits into the Credentials Process
National Credentialing Exam
To become a registered dietitian nutritionist (RDN), you must pass a national exam administered by the Commission on Dietetic Registration (CDR). To take the credentialing exam, you must have a minimum of a master's degree and have completed coursework and supervised practice in program(s) accredited by the ACEND. The CDR requires exam applicants to provide two verification statements, proving they meet the required minimum criteria:
- Didactic Program in Dietetics Verification Statement (Bachelor coursework)
- Dietetic Internship Verification Statement (Master coursework and practicum hours)
State Licensure Laws
Those who successfully pass the exam may use the registered dietitian nutritionist (RDN) credential. Once the RDN credential is obtained, state licensure may be applied for where applicable. Learn more about licensure requirements by state.
