Dr. Kate Garnett has created the following course for the Albion Center:
Dr. Kate Alice Garnett (Ed.D.) is an educator and scholar-practitioner dedicated to advancing language justice. She is a professor, founder of the Language Justice Education Initiative, and co-founder of the Alter-Globalized Community of Educators, where she promotes linguistically just teaching through Critical Language Awareness. Originally from the U.S. and based in Japan since 2014, Kate’s work spans K–12 schools, universities, nonprofits, and community programs in Japan, Syria, and the U.S. A first-generation college graduate, she holds an Ed.D. in Language Justice and Humane Education from Antioch University, an M.S.Ed. in Literacy, Culture, and Language Education from Indiana University, and a B.A. in English and Writing from Southern Connecticut State University. Her research has been published in leading journals and presented at international conferences. Beyond academia, Kate volunteers in environmentalism, feminist pedagogy, and LGBTQ rights, and practices kintsugi restoration and writing.
